Simple Pleasures

Jill Chivers, of My Year Without Clothes Shopping, writes about the affect a recent death in her family had on her old habit of mindless shopping. Experiencing sadness, confusion, and anger has reminded Chivers of the needs shopping used to meet, including soothing her, distracting her, and helping her tune out. Instead, she is focusing on the simple pleasures of everyday life, which are free and which we often fail to notice. Simple pleasures Chivers enjoys include taking her time in a hot shower, drinking tea outdoors instead of at her desk, and spending a weekend afternoon watching a movie while enjoying favorite snacks.
