Frugal Doesn’t Mean ‘Deprived’

Donna Freedman started her writing career with an article called “Surviving (and Thriving) on $12,000 a Year.” It got a lot of negative reaction from readers on MSN Money. People considered it hardship or deprivation to live on such a meager amount of money. Ms. Freedman, however, looked at things in a different manner. She found that she was much more grateful for what she had, rather than lamenting on what she lacked. Plus, she found one other thing that made up for doing without: peace of mind. She saw many people who were in a constant state of want. They never seemed to be satisfied. Those people, according to her, are deprived.
