What Would Jesus Buy

Production of a feature documentary on the consumerization of Christmas and our addiction to shopping has begun. Morgan Spurlock, who directed “Super Size Me,” is the Executive Producer; Rob Van Alkemade, documentarian and journalist, is directing.

The message of the film—that corporate sponsored addiction to material things is undermining our culture, and in particular has sucked the spirit from Christmas and replaced it with a commercial feeding frenzy—is conveyed by experts, historians, and religious leaders, by testimonials from the public about the realities of their own shopping and the state of their spiritual health, and by documentation of Reverend Billy (pictured here) and his Church of Stop Shopping’s campaign against addictive consumption. The movie will debut at film festivals by August and be in theatres and stores for Christmas ‘06.
